Derek Malone-France, who directs the University Writing Program at GW, wrote a short piece for the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning titled "Teaching Writing and Research Through Nested Assignments." The piece was part of the Faculty Teaching Tips collection put together by CITL, and it could be very useful for WID contributors as they consider how to design their own course assignments and/or introduce and explain already-prepared assignments to their students. The piece centers on the idea of "nesting" assignments, that is, situating them clearly and explicitly within the specific goals and contexts of the course.
