Linked below is an example from Middlebury College of how one could set up grading criteria for a term paper. Note: though there are no specific point values formally assigned to each given categories, a system like this allows the grader to evaluate the paper based on whether or not it meets the standards set. Exact letter-grade conversion of "Outstanding" or "Average" papers is left up to the instructor, but a system of established criteria like this one can be a useful tool in learning to clarifying your own expectations for student papers.
