Hello, and welcome to the WIDboard Beta! WIDboard is designed to serve as an online resource center and discussion forum for Writing In the Disciplines. As of right now, we are releasing it to GTAs and IAs, because we feel it can be useful to you in your work. The forum is designed to be a central location for resources, tips, and discussion for those involved in the Writing In the Disciplines program. Please, visit the board and sign up for an account, so that you can avail yourself of the resources.
A Couple of Notes:
1. Please, when you create your account, enable us to email you through the board. We will likely begin to use this board as a communication center as it becomes more fully developed.
2. Please provide us with feedback regarding the board, either by messaging the administrator (account name: WIDboard). We are trying to build a better board, so please, let us know what we can do to make it stronger, from new kinds of content we might add, to organizational problems you may encounter with the current setup, or any other issues that interfere with the utility of the board. (Obviously, we are still building content in certain sections of the board, including Discipline-Specific Resources, the Workshop Center, and Library Resources. We will try to post that content as soon as we are able.)
A Few Rules for WIDboard:[/u]
On the General WID board, feel free to;
[/li][li]Discuss methods and strategies for writing pedagogy;
[/li][li]Ask for help or advice with specific problems or questions related to writing instruction;
[/li][li]Tell others about particularly successful (or unsuccessful) activities, exercises, or teaching methods that you have tried with your own students;
[/li][li]Respond to others' questions, to help others learn from your experiences;
[/li][li]Relate hilarious anecdotes from the classroom that only a WID person would understand;
On All WID boards:
[/li][li]Be respectful and professional toward one another, as well as toward GWU faculty, staff, and students. Feel free to ask for help or relate stories, but maintain confidentiality! After all, this is an online forum.
Please do not feel free to:
[/li][li]Make complaints against other faculty/staff/GTAs/IAs/PWPs (any issues of this nature that you need help with should be directed to Randi Kristensen or Jon Dueck, who direct the WID program);
[/li][li]Refer to any students by name, or with any details that can be used to identify a specific student; Ask questions about a situation, not about a specific student;
[/li][li]Post anything that would be inappropriate for representatives of GW to discuss about.
Remember, WIDboard is a place for all WID contributors to ask and answer questions of and for one another, and to come together with resources for teachers of writing. Help your colleagues out, and with any luck, we will work together to create a living archive of challenges, solutions, and successes in this adventure we call Writing In the Disciplines!
